With 88 pistes across nine skiing areas with guaranteed snow, 200 km of cross-country ski trails and 150 km of winter hiking trails, Upper Engadin is one of the most beautiful and diverse winter sports regions in Switzerland. And the Castell is located right in the middle of it all.
Skiing & Snowboarding
The sun on your face and powdery snow under your feet all day: 350 kilometres of piste make it possible. And thanks to an altitude of 1800 to 3303 metres, snow is guaranteed. By the way, you can access the piste (ski-in/ski-out) and the Zuoz family skiing area directly from Hotel Castell.
Cross-country skiing
An expansive region of well prepared trails and guaranteed snow—welcome to cross-country skiing paradise. 230 km of prepared trails traverse the Upper Engadin and its countless romantic tributary valleys. Whether you are training for the Engadin cross-country skiing marathon, want to test your limits on the racing trails or prefer to spend the evening gliding along illuminated night trails, you are sure to find the right route here.
Entry to the cross-country trails can be found at Zuoz cross-country ski centre.
Tobogganing & hiking routes
Many of the routes for snowshoeing through the snowy Engadin winter landscape begin and end right at the Castell. And depending on your taste, there are both daring and more gentle tobogganing pistes near the Castell.

Ice rink
Gliding weightlessly over the ice with panoramic views: enjoy winter fun on the hotel’s own ice rink. Ice skates are available to rent directly from us for ice hockey, curling or ice skating.
Other winter activities around and about the Castell
SNOWKITING
In winter they race over the frozen lake on skis or snowboards. Snowkiting was basically invented on Lake Silvaplaner.
CURLING
The Engadin is a kingdom for curlers. Countless rinks—and all in the open air!
MADULAIN ICE ROUTE
The Madulain ice route leads you through a wonderful floodplain landscape along the banks of the Inn.
CASTELL ICE RINK
The Castell has its own small ice rink. Ice skates are available to rent.
PURTUM ZUOZ ICE RINK
Ice kings and queens can make a big impression in Zuoz—even on the smaller second rink.
EISARENA LUDAINS ICE RINK
Eisarena Ludains offers guests open-air ice skating on its artificial ice rink.
LA PUNT ICE RINK
This natural ice rink, which is free to use for all guests, can be found right by the school and sports grounds in the Chamues-ch district. Ice skating & curling.
SNOWSHOEING
Give the quiet art of snowshoeing a try or walk all the way to the summit.
MUOTTAS MURAGL TOBOGGAN RUN
This is the fastest of all the toboggan runs in the region—dropping 718 metres around 20 bends over 4.2 kilometres ensures thrills for all.
ZUOZ TOBOGGAN ROUTE
The Zuoz family skiing area offers a great 1 km tobogganing route.
BERGÜN TOBOGGAN ROUTE
The train to Preda departs hourly (about 20 min. journey from St. Moritz). Toboggan rental at Preda train station, return at Bergün. Route: 400 metre descent over 5 km.
HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE RIDES
By day or by night: a ride in a horse-drawn carriage is always something special. Savour the views of the bright open landscape and the meditative sound of the horses’ hooves, in your very own fairytale.
OVAVERVA INDOOR POOL
Fun and action in a large indoor pool. Ready for all kinds of different strokes: the 25-metre pool offers enough space for athletes and recreational swimmers as well as families to get their kicks.
ZERNEZ FAMILY POOL
It’s the small things that really count at this family pool. The welcome is warm, the offering is clear, the price is right.
BOWLING
Bowl the ball with an energetic but controlled swing and enjoy an exciting evening with friends and family.
BELLAVITA WATER PARK
The Bellavita water park provides water-based fun of the Alpine variety. The indoor pool is extremely versatile, sporty and playful.
SAMEDAN MINERAL BATH & SPA
The bathing jewel in Samedan—bathe between heaven and earth, churches and mountains in the bath’s very own spring water.
ENGADIN BAD SCUOL
In Engadin Bad Scuol you will find a health pool and a recreational pool, a large sauna landscape, the Roman-Irish bath and other offerings for holistic wellbeing.
